Hunter Qualifications

SWMNV maintains stringent qualification requirements for all applicants. These minimal requirements are intended to attract hunters who are safety conscious, proficient, ethical, discreet, respectful to landowners and their property, and sensitive to the fact that adjoining property owners may object to hunting.

Before completing the following requirements, all applicants must have prior experience harvesting at least five big game animals within the previous ten year period, utilizing archery equipment:

This application provides a hunting history supported by references and the required support materials. NOTE: Incomplete applications, to include lack of specified supporting materials, is subject to rejection.
2.gif (1328 bytes) Bowhunter Education Course
Applicants must provide evidence they have successfully completed the International Bowhunter Education Program (IBEP) or similar safety course.
3.gif (1411 bytes) Shooting Proficiency Test
Applicants must pass a shooting proficiency test. This test demonstrates shooting skills with actual hunting equipment.

This test meets or exceeds the shooting proficiency tests required on area military bases such as Fort Belvoir and Quantico.

4.gif (1318 bytes) Interview
A personal interview with members of the Governing Committee (GovCom) is conducted to determine a deeper insight to an applicant's experience and history. Based on factors such as personality, experience, shooting skills, preparedness and attitude, the GovCom will vote to accept, deny, or postpone the applicant for membership.
5.gif (1386 bytes) Re-evaluation
All members are evaluated on performance in the field once accepted and assigned. Regular (general) harvest reports are forwarded to all members in an effort to encourage and inspire all members to maintain regular outings and excellent recovery rates.

Reports of unsafe, unethical, and all improper activities are solicited from cooperating landowners, game wardens and biologists. The GovCom will continually re-evaluate hunters and take any disciplinary action necessary up to and including removal from membership.
